Baixa is the most central and well-known area of Lisbon. It was completely rebuilt by the Marquês de Pombal after the earthquake that destroyed part of the city in the 18th century. This area has large classic avenues, flanked by tiled houses, in the typical Lisbon style. Baixa is full of shops and restaurants and is always busy during the day.
This area is home to the capital 's most emblematic squares and streets. The neighborhood starts at Praça dos Restauradores, continues along Avenida da Liberdade and passes through Praça Marquês de Pombal.
Perfectly served by all types of public transport, and with one of the main metro stations in the city (blue and green lines), Baixa-Chiado is a perfect place for students and workers to live.
